For the last few months, I’ve had the honor of filming Jeffrey Schwarz’s new documentary about Vito Russo: gay rights pioneer, AIDS activist, founder of GLAAD and author of the groundbreaking book The Celluloid Closet, which has become the definitive resource chronicling how gays and lesbians have been portrayed in films since the first motion pictures.
